  • Compensation for disadvantages due to disability or illness and family burdens.

The General Examination Regulations regulate the possibility of compensating for disadvantages:

"§ 24 Compensation for disadvantages and family support in examinations

    (1) The nature and severity of a disability or illness shall be taken into account in the examination procedure. If an examinee substantiates that he/she is not able to take the examination performance in whole or in part in the intended form due to a long-lasting or permanent physical disability or a serious illness, the examiner may compensate for this by extending the processing time accordingly or by structuring the examination procedure differently. A medical certificate must be presented on request.

    (2) Account shall be taken of the burden of pregnancy, bringing up children or caring for relatives in need of care. Insofar as the APB or the implementing provisions stipulate deadlines for the provision of certain services, these shall be extended by the statutory maternity protection periods upon request. Furthermore, upon application, an appropriate extension of the deadlines can also be granted if there are proven burdens according to sentence 1.

    (3) Decisions under subsections 1 and 2 shall be taken by the examiner, if necessary by the competent examination board in agreement with the examiner.

If you have any questions in this regard, please contact the student advisory service .

  • Procedure and registration for specialisation examinations.

Within the scope of your Master's degree programme, you will take up to two specialisation examinations, depending on your field of study.

A specialisation examination is a module examination in which the content of up to four courses totalling 18 CP is examined. The specialisation examination is oral.

In order to be able to take a specialisation examination, you must first register for the examination in TUCaN during an examination registration period (01.06.-30.06. for the summer semester/ 15.11.-15.12. for the winter semester). You then apply for the registration form in the Office for Student Affairs . You fill this out together with your examiner or have it filled out. You or the examiner must return the completed form to the Office of Student Affairs at least 8 days before the examination event. The examination date and content will be entered into TUCaN by your administrator.

  • Two programmes are studied at the same time.

Many students opt for a double degree programme. In most cases, students choose the subject that is their minor in their first degree.

Often the combination is mathematics/physics or mathematics/computer science. This has the advantage that the courses from the minor subject in the second degree or courses from the second degree in the minor subject can be recognised without any problems. Even if 180 CP have to be achieved in the Bachelor's degree in both degree programmes, mutual recognition can mean that not so many CP have to be acquired later in the first or second subject. This means that you still study two subjects, but the recognition saves you time in the end, so that you often need less than 2x 6 semesters.

In the Master's programme, double students often opt for the interdisciplinary field of study. Here, too, the duration of studies can be shortened through mutual recognition of achievements.

Despite all this, a double degree programme is also a double burden, which manifests itself not only in possibly more CP per semester, but also in a higher administrative organisational effort. Furthermore, the time aspect should not be underestimated. A Bachelor's double degree programme can nevertheless take 9-10 semesters.

If you are interested in a double degree programme or have questions about which courses from your second subject can be recognised by us, please contact the .
