Services

As student union we offer a range of services to make your studies easier. This page gives you an overview of what we have to offer.

Open study rooms

The open student workrooms can be used by all students of the Department of Mathematics to work on exercises, to prepare for exams or for consultation hours. They can also be used during lecture-free periods. The open study rooms are

  • S2|15 Room 333
  • S2|15 room 336
  • S2|15 room 345
  • S2|15 Room 415
  • S2|15 Room 444

In order to be productive, you need to follow certain rules. In short, these rules state that you should behave in a workspace as you would expect others to behave.

Closed workspaces

Closed student workspaces are for students in higher semesters who are working on their Bachelor's, Diploma, Master's or Staatsexamen dissertations, as well as for those who want to prepare for exams in peace and quiet. We manage some closed student workrooms and allocate places. Mathematics students studying for an exam have the opportunity to get a shelf space. If you would like to secure a place, please send an email to .

  • S1|03 Room 092a-c
  • S1|03 Room 095
  • S1|03 Room 378
  • S1|03 Room 379

The consultation hours tool can be found at https://sprechstunden.mathebau.de.

More details can be found in the IT Tutorial .

Some courses, such as Introduction to Programming, require a variety of software. To avoid the need for each student to purchase an expensive licence, we have pool rooms where these programmes are already installed.

If such software is essential for a course, work experience accounts are provided to allow you to access the computers in a small group.

If you would like to use the computers in the pool rooms independently of such events, you can apply for a pool account.

The pool rooms currently include

  • S2|15/K309
  • S2|15/K313
  • S2|15/344.

The three pool rooms in the Maths building are managed by the Student Union and can be booked for individual events, such as programming exercises, at raumverwaltung@mathebau.de.

Departmental mailing lists

The department and the student union have several mailing lists. Some of them are essential, others are not essential for your studies, but are still highly recommended.

At the TU Darmstadt, the Department of Mathematics has a mailing list for each semester. This mailing list is used to send out information about your degree programme, including important events.

The mailing list for your year is set up during Orientation Week . You will be added to this list when you take part in the Orientation Week. You can subscribe to a list by going to the Department Mailing Lists overview page.

Select the appropriate list (e.g. 'Maths') and fill in the fields under 'Subscribe to …'. You will then receive an email at the address you entered, which you will need to confirm. That's it. You can also unsubscribe from lists on this page. The main faculty lists are

  • M20XX for students who started in winter term 20XX.
  • Mathe for students from the fifth semester onwards. After two years, subscribers to the M20XX list are automatically moved to this list.

There is also a jobs list, which is used to distribute career and job offers from the University and external companies at irregular intervals.

Mailing lists of the student union

As a student union, we also have mailing lists such as the newsletter, which sends out weekly updates on current topics, dates and more. There are also mailing lists for invitations to games nights , ballnights , music nights and other fun activities. There is also a mailing list for women's representatives. You can subscribe to the mailing lists yourself on the student union mailing list overview page. You can also easily add your name to some lists during Orientation week .

The main lists are

  • Wasgeht: This list is used to announce events such as games nights, parties or open events as part of the OWO.
  • Newsletter: The student union newsletter provides information about current topics from the student union meeting at rather irregular intervals.

As the student union, we are responsible for allocating (empty) lockers in the Maths building. To get a locker, simply contact our Locker Officer, Kate, or email her at .

You can also find the forms you need to fill in to get a locker here:

The student union room is the ideal place to take a break in the maths building, get some tea, coffee or fruit, play a round of cards, but also if you have any questions.

The student union room is explicitly not categorised as a study room, as it is not a room where you should work on your studies. On the one hand, it is a good place to take a break, as there is tea and coffee at reasonable prices and sofas to relax on. It is also a place to come if you have any problems or questions about your studies. And last but not least, this is the room where the student union's university politics decisions are made and meetings are held. It is located in S2|15, room 347/348.

In our student union, everyone who studies here is warmly welcomed and everyone is allowed and able to use and contribute their skills and strengths to the community. As student representatives, we also want to be a point of contact for students. This includes, in particular, listening to students with problems and concerns.

It is important to us that any problem that needs to be addressed is given the space and opportunity to be heard. Whether it's difficulties with the organisation of your studies, with lecturers or fellow students, whether it's personal or family problems, uncertainty about how to deal with stress, a new life situation or something else entirely. As a student union, it is important to us that all students have the opportunity to find a sympathetic ear if they feel the need for a confidential discussion.

Since the term 'student union' encompasses a large number of different characters, it is often not so easy, despite the openness, to find out who of the many people you can ask for a chat, advice or perhaps even help. To counteract this uncertainty, we have appointed student confidants who we as a student union consider particularly suitable to take on this task. It is always possible to speak to them in confidence. They are also happy to talk to you at eye level. There are currently three confidential counsellors, from left to right: Gonne, Lea and Tom.

How to contact us

Consultation hours take place in winter term 2024/25 on Fridays from 10:30 to 11:30 in S2|15 K311 (Geometry reference library).

Gonne, Lea and Tom can also be contacted personally by email (at , tom@mathebau.de and ) or at :)
