The town of l'Aquila and its Surroundings
  • L’Aquila is a small and safe town of around 70000 inhabitants, but at the same time the many students make it a lively place. It is the capital of the Abruzzo region, of medieval origins and great historical importance. This is reflected by the beautiful historic center that has been mostly restored after the 2009 earthquake.
  • The town has a very active music scene (including a concert season, theatre and jazz festival), and many places of artistic interest. Notable is the museum of modern art (MAXXI).
  • L’Aquila is the Italian Capital of Culture 2026.
  • Located in the middle of the Apennin Mountains, l’Aquila is surrounded by national and regional parks, Ski resorts, and medieval villages.
  • Food is generally great (this is Italy!), and there are slow-food and zero-km-food associations.
  • Rome is a little more than one hour away, there is a direct bus service.
