Numerics (Master)

Specialization in Numerics

For the following fields of study, a specialization covering 18 CP is offered: Mathematics, Mathematics Interdisciplinary and Mathematics of Data Science.

Courses Offered each Winter Semester

  • Numerics of PDEs with Uncertain Data (9 CP*)

Regularly Offered Courses

  • Scalable Solvers for Data Science (5 CP*)
  • Efficient Methods for Data Assimilation (5 CP*)
  • Computational Electromagnetics (5 CP)
  • Singularly Perturbed Differential Equations (5 CP)
  • Numerics of Incompressible Fluid Flows (5 CP)
  • Numerics of Hyperbolic Differential Equations (5 CP)
  • Discontinuous Galerkin Methods (5 CP)

These courses are offered alternately. Please check in advance which of them are offered. The courses can be chosen as specialization in numerics or as electives. The courses marked by * are suitable for the field of study Mathematics of Data Science.

Courses offered in German can be offered in English instead, if required.

Current courses can be found on TUCaN.

Master Seminar Numerics

At least every winter semester (if required also in summer semester) a seminar is offered (from 9th semester). This is meant to be the basis of the Master's thesis in Numerics. Topics are issued at the beginning of the course (if required also earlier).

The 2024 Master Seminar takes place as a block seminar together with the Bachelor's Seminar from June 5th to June 7th. It focuses on “Gradient Flows and Hamiltonian Systems”. If you are interested, please contact or .

Master's Thesis

Topics are issued in agreement with the supervisor based on the specialization, on the fields of interest and on the seminar.

Former Master's thesis topics and suggestions for topics can be found here .
