What is ...?

In the what is…? seminars, which take place weekly during the lecture period before the colloquia, staff members of our department provide a student-oriented insight into the research topic of the colloquium lecture.

A What is …? lecture…

  • …is a 30-minute lecture which clearly answers the mathematical “What is …?” question in a way that is understandable for every Master’s student of mathematics
  • …is related to the topic of the colloquium taking place that week

The What is …? lectures are organized by students for students. The aim is to give students the opportunity to get to know different research areas of mathematics in an informal way!

The talks take place on Wednesdays from 16:15 to 16:45 before the colloquium in room S215-234.

The current lecture announcements can be found at the events of the Department of Mathematics .
