On March 21 Teresa Kunkel successfully defended her PhD thesis on

„Observer-based data assimilation and asymptotic-preserving

discretization for hyperbolic balance laws on networks“. Teresa's

research was carried out in the framework of TRR154 funded by the

German research foundation (DFG) and has led to significant results

such as the identification of the minimal number of measurement points

that are needed to ensure reliable results for certain types of observers (a frequently used tool in data assimilation) for state estimation in gas networks.
