International Research Training Group 1529 - Mathematical Fluid Dynamics

Projects

The IRTG 1529 intends to combine methods from analysis, geometry, optimization, stochastics and statistics in order to develop new techniques for challenging problems in mathematical fluid dynamics. Interactions between different areas and different approaches in mathematical fluid dynamics are more and more important. The different approaches include variational concepts on Lie groups, Kolmogorov operators, martingale solutions, optimal control, statistical analysis of Gaussian fields and free boundary value problems.

The IRTG 1529 will concentrate on the following key areas:

Fundamental Perspectives from Analysis, Stochastics and Geometry

Flows past rotating obstacles and their boundary layers

Free boundary value problems, moving contact lines and fluid-solid interactions
