Buddy programme for exchange students
A very warm welcome!
You have decided to spend some time in our department as part of an exchange programme or an international study programme.
At our faculty, we attach great importance to optimal support for our students. That is why we have developed a buddy program especially for our students from abroad: If you register for our program, you will be assigned a buddy from our faculty. Our volunteer buddies are experienced students who are very familiar with the department and the customs of our university, and who want to make it easier for you to start your first semester at the TU Darmstadt – so that your time at our university will be a great success.
Have we sparked your interest? Then please register!
Participation in the Buddy programme is voluntary.
Shortly after your application resp. acceptance for the study programme you will receive first information by mail from our team, which will support you in your final decision for the TU Darmstadt and the preparation for your studies in Darmstadt. You will then receive detailed information on visas, housing, health insurance, etc. during the summer.
About eight weeks before the beginning of the semester you will receive another email with information about the buddy programme. If you would like to participate, simply register and you will receive further information. Please register about three weeks prior to your arrival in Darmstadt.
Shortly before your arrival, you will receive an email from our buddies in which they introduce themselves and give you initial information about studying in Darmstadt. During this first contact you and your buddy will clarify your arrival details. It is possible that your buddy will pick you up at Darmstadt main station and take you to your accommodation.
The buddy programme offers you not only the opportunity to settle easily at the university and in the city and to make contacts, but also a contact person if you have any questions or problems.
If you start in the winter semester:
The Orientation Week (OWO) takes place one week before the start of the semester. During this week you will not only get to know the city, the university and your fellow students, but you will also receive important information about studying. Together with your buddies, the study coordinator and the exchange coordinators, you will work out your timetable, get help with course selection and get to know the campus management system TUCaN.
You will also have the opportunity to take part in the Welcome Event of the Tutor International University Group. Here you will get to know other international students from the entire university. In addition, Tutor International offers year-round events and excursions to various sights in the area and leisure activities.
Support by the buddys
The support by the buddies begins already prior to your arrival in Darmstadt. From then on, your buddy will be your first person to contact. Your buddy will assist you with formalities such as enrolment, administrative formalities, etc. at the beginning of your stay and will show you the city and the university so that your start in Darmstadt runs as smoothly as possible.
During the semester you can contact your buddy at any time if you have any questions or problems. The buddy will help you with words and deeds or, if necessary, will put you in touch with the right contact person.
During the semester you will be invited by the mentors to various workshops and content meetings. Here you will learn how to use TUCaN, how to register for and prepare for exams or how to find and apply for an internship.
In addition, we would like to draw your attention to the workshops offered by the ULB and the Writing Center of TU Darmstadt. In the summer semester you also have the opportunity to take part in Konaktiva workshops and to get to know companies from the surrounding area and from all over Germany at Konaktiva itself.
