Equations to describe incompressible fluid flow have attained considerable attention: Even for the simplest case of water flow, important questions remain open until today. More complex models include non-Newtonian fluids, for which the viscosity is a nonlinear function of the shear rate. We shall take a look at examples from technical and medical applications as well as in geophysical flow. Furthermore we discuss some questions arising in the numerical analysis that center around stability.
